Sparking Interest in Competency Assessment and Professional Development

Goals: To explore the Wright Competency Assessment Model and how to bring it to life. We will explore how to successfully implement this competency philosophy, as well the common barriers you may encounter along the way. You will take away methods for selecting competencies, validation, accountability, and how to get buy-in at all levels. You can create a competency process that is simple and sustainable, and even a little fun!
Objectives:
- Gain a clear understand of the Wright Competency Model
- Learn how to put the concepts of the Wright Competency model into action across your organization
- Prepare for re-entry back to your team
Facilitating Valuable Simulations

Goal: To provide useful tools for facilitator utilization in order to create a psychologically safe learning environment and sparking interest among learners and staff.
Objectives:
- Identify the necessary steps for creation of a simulation-based education curriculum.
- Discuss the various methodologies for appropriately achieving the goals and objectives of a course.
- Demonstrate useful techniques for simulation facilitation to include pre-briefing and debriefing.
- Create a renewed interest for facilitators to utilize best practices in simulation to provide the highest quality education.
Continuing Education
The Wisconsin Society for Healthcare Education and Training designates this activity for up to 5.5 contact hours (0.55 CEUs) of continuing education for allied health professionals.
About the Speakers
Donna Wright is a nurse and professional development specialist with Creative Healthcare Management in Minneapolis, MN. Donna has degrees in Nursing, Family Sociology, and Adult Education. Donna has worked with many health care organizations to help them create meaningful, effective programs that support professional development and competency assessment for all departments. She is the author of the book, The Ultimate Guide to Competency Assessment in Healthcare – which has been translated into Japanese and is being used throughout Japan. Her other competency book is: The Competency Assessment Field Guide.
She is also one of the co-authors of two national award-winning books, Relationship-Based Care: A model for transforming practice and Advancing Relationship-Base Cultures.
Donna has also worked with organizations across the globe with competency topics. She has worked on six out of seven continents. The only one she has not worked on is Antarctica.
Donna received her degrees from the University of Minnesota. She has worked in both staff and leadership roles. Her experiences have taken her around the globe to a variety of health care settings including rural Africa. Donna is a member and past president of the Association for Nursing Professional Development and is a recipient of their “Promoting Excellence in Consultation” award and the Marlene Kramer Lifetime Achievement award. Donna is known for her energy and refreshing approach to education and learning.
Erick Przyblylski is a critical care paramedic with nearly twenty years of experience in various settings to include prehospital, emergency department, inter-facility, critical care, and air medical transport. Throughout his career, Erick’s passion for education has persisted with roles at the organizational, regional, and national levels while furthering his own academic pursuits. In 2019 he graduated with his Master of Science in Medical and Health Care Simulation from Drexel University in Philadelphia.
Erick enjoys developing innovative approaches to achieve goals, and his efforts have been recognized with the issuance of a patent for his Novel ECMO Cannulation and Flow Simulator in 2022 that filled a significant void in the market to train medical professionals on this critical and time sensitive intervention. This led to the creation of Simul8, LLC, where he holds the title of President and Founder and continues his efforts to provide high-quality education and training to health care workers around the world.

Cancellations received by November 1st will receive a full refund. No refunds will be given for cancellations received after this date. Substitutions are accepted; please contact WISHET to arrange a substitution.
Accommodations
A small block of rooms has been reserved for conference attendees at the Chula Vista. Resort fees have been waived for attendees. If you stay Thursday or Friday night, you can stay and play all day the day of and the day after. On Thursday night, only the outdoor hot tub will be open (indoor water park is closed). Additional information regarding reservations will be sent with your conference registration confirmation.
